Simeon, old man, you’d waited so
long in trust. Devout as ever, on that memorable day of your life, you were, as
usual, at the temple courts.
“Filled with the Holy Spirit” as
Luke records, you knew when you saw Jesus that you beheld Your savior and the
Redeemer of the world.
How had you remained patiently
waiting all those years?
Oh yes, Spirit-dependent. That's
why. Mary must have recognized that you, Simeon, were devout with the
Spirit for she surrendered Jesus briefly into your arms. You actually held your
Savior!
What a day for an old man now ready
to enter eternity.
What days for us ever since we
first recognized the reality of our Redeemer.
And Simeon when you finally saw
Jesus you said, “This child is destined to be a sign that will be spoken
against so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed.”
Thoughts of hearts revealed? Lord,
isn’t this what still happens today?
Jesus is spoken against by those
whose hearts reveal a self-superiority, who insist “I shall put no God before
myself.” Oh what a heart-revealer that is.
Where do we stand with Jesus?
Do we believe the teachings of God?
Will we be tolerant at any cost? Will we choose the flow of the smooth talkers
who say evil is good?
Will we endure the world’s scorn
for truth. Will our “niceness “embrace even evil? Will we be counted among the
truth-speakers against the distortions of our time?
