Anna, a widow who had been married only seven
years - you were husbanded by God alone ever since your mate died. Many must
have known your age, eighty-four, how else could the gospel writer Luke state
it so confidently.
You spent your life in worship day
and night at the Temple with prayer and fasting.
Were others inspired by your
example as I’ve been inspired by the godly women who went before me like
Bernice and Ruth, my physical and spiritual mothers?
How wonderful that there are women
among us still who follow this lifestyle of perpetual prayer. And so may we all
imitate you Anna at least in moments throughout our day.
When you saw Simeon talking with
Mary and Joseph you approached to investigate. Not one to hold back, you had to
see for yourself. And once you did you immediately began praising God.
For, from the very moment you laid
eyes on Him, you knew Jesus was your Messiah, and not only yours. Once you knew
you told, oh how you spoke. Luke records you telling about the child to all who
were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem. And yes, soon the
redemption of the entire world!!!
A ready truth-speaker were you.
May all of us who have recognized
Jesus be so bold in telling others.
Luke
