Joseph, You Were There

Joseph

Good man, solid man, God-directed, you shouldered the huge responsibility of fathering our Savior with diligence.

Nothing could shock you after the virginal conception of this Godchild. Not even shepherds arriving at your dwelling place nor wise men looking for your child.

Angel visits, well yes, that would have been unusual also, but accepted readily and acted upon. No divine doubter were you.

Sudden departures, well life wasn’t meant to be one of ease.

No room at the inn had simply been a problem to be solved as was eeking out daily existence by the sweat of your brow.

Hardship didn’t surprise you.
The word special may not have been in your vocabulary before but it certainly was now. And you would live out your role with trust in the God who never failed you.

There’s so much you can teach me, all of us, about enduring tough challenges, keeping our eyes and ears open awaiting heaven-sent direction.

No limelight for you, just the simple dependable doing of a Dad who loved his family, whether human or divine.

How you inspire me!
